QUEEN+Lambert Review @ O2 Arena, London2015 (English and Spanish)

Last Saturday we had the opportunity to enjoy Queen + Adam Lambert show at the O2 Arena, the first thing we have to mention is that Queen where Mercury, Deacon, Taylor and May, hence as two former members unfortunately were not there, we had the chance to enjoy a Tribute Show to Queen, probably the best one worldwide but a tribute show performed by Adam Lambert and 2 former Queen members, May and Taylor.

Replacing a lead singer in a band like Queen is difficult and incredibly risky and the audience will never be happy as he will be always in a constant comparison with the legendary Mercury.

Forgetting about previous points and we just talk about the show, we must recognize that we went to the O2 arena not quite sure about what we could expect, doors opened 6.30pm and despite some chaotic organization in the queue, security was quite good and all went quite quickly. So… there we were, 8.30, O2 Arena, London, enjoying a cold beer while we started listening to the legendary One vision strings introduction followed by May’s big shadow behind the curtain to let the show start.

From the beginning it was quite obvious that Lambert had no interest in even pretending that he could actually be Freddie, the band performed a high level and electrifying rock and roll concert with massive hits such as One vision / Stone Cold Crazy / Another one bites the dust / Fat Bottomed girls / Lap of the Gods / Seven Seas of Rhye / Killer Queen / I want to break free / Somebody to Love, that part of the show just before the acoustic break was probably our favourite part, with an amazing performance and incredible sound and lighting show (above all in another one bites the dust),  being fair we have to mention that there were some annoying latency problems with the massive screen behind Taylor but fortunately they were sorted out quite quickly.

After somebody to love we had the “acoustic break” that in our opinion brought the entertainment down, May was with his famous “selfie stick” talking and talking, such a long time for us that we wanted more energy and more rock and roll… but at least a good opportunity to go to the loo and get another beer. May performed I’m a Londoner, Love of my life and 39, creating a lovely atmosphere and nice tribute to the former members but with quite a weak voice and most of the time out of tune, then Taylor performed these are the days of our lives with an emotive snapshots that tribute 4 formed members of the band, followed by the musical interlude, quite a good bass solo by Neil and a drum batter, Taylor vs Taylor, Roger vs Rufus.

So last part of the show, after that non desired break where the intensity decreased and the band could rest and have some oxygen (Taylor needed it he looked like he was going to have a heart attack and could not breath) Lambert was back singing Under Pressure with Taylor, Save me (such an unexpected surprise) who wants to live forever, May’s guitar solo (mix of Tremolo bar, last horizon and Brighton Rock, in our opinion not his best guitar solo performance as the tremolo bar bit was extremely boring), Tie your mother down (with Rufus on the drums and Taylor on percussion, sounding simply amazing), I want it all, Radio Gaga, Crazy little thing called love and Bohemian Rhapsody… it may sound cheeky but we were so disappointed when we saw that May was using recorded guitars for the last guitar solos “run” bits.

The show was nearly over but not without an amazing encore, we will rock you and we are the champions. Such a shame the didn’t perform the show must go on, love kills and/or Don’t stop me now.

As a summary we could say that was a good show, recommended to everyone who wants to enjoy an amazing spectacle without comparisons, Lambert is "not to bad" frontman and singer and the band is simply amazing, obviously they are on their 60s so that affects and we cannot expect “Live at Wembley” level  but they performed such a concert that we will be pleased to see again.

CASTELLANO

El show estaba terminando pero no sin los himnos, We will rock you y We are the champions. Se dejaron en el tintero Show must go on, Love kills y Don´t stop me now.
